Why would that get him arrested?

AFAIK unless updated, only up to n.4 shot legal.

Strange but true  Grin

. Use it hard and don’t baby it. Go to the range take a case of 500 or more 000buck in 3inch cartridges and fire them all away.
Then try the low recoil loads after that and you will see the difference.

Hi LCD   You are going to give the  SAT 8 an exagerated puneshment Cry Cry  Just  about  200/300  rounds of 36 gr bird shot but HIGH VELOCITY loaded, without any oil on the piston/cylinder  are sufficient. ( buck shot  or  bird shot dont make any difference, expect getting arrested at the moment as mentiond RB )

Oh CRAP, that's not good.   Shocked
I guess you have to go with the heaviest you can legally get then.
That can suck big time in a competition. I found that the lighter the shot the more splatter there is, especially when using bowling pins.

hello to all.
I use my SAT 8 for practical shotgun in the UK and i had the same problem, the solution i found was as lots of heavy loads SG/00 buckshot and slug, although from the posts above i understand you may not be allowed to use this type or cartridge in malta. Anyway they DO require some running in, also cartridge lengh is important nothing less than 70mm and as someone said run them with lots of oil.

i have also shortened the magazine spring (i was getting double feed jams ) by about 150mm this seems to have sorted the problem also makes loading easier.

hope this helps

happy shooting

Neil.

Wettinger,
Oiling  the  piston in a gass operated shot gun is not going to work more than a round ( 25 clays ) because it will burn out,!!      You will have to oil the piston again and again, always  expecting the next malfunction.!!

RB  and  Pierre,
I think .... there is 3 reasons for the SAT 8  trouble,

1 Is the normal running in of the gun ( If you read the manual of th Breda shot gun it recomend high velocity
and heavy loads for running in )
2 Sat 8 cycle only  heavy loads ( not probably because a tactical shotgun must  cycle everything even Rubber
  Buck Shot.)
3 May be the black nylon or what is it, is too soft , expanding before its expected  OR black part diameter is a little
  bit oversize !!!

PROBLEM  NO  3,  FAULTY PISTION   Smiley

A bit of a correction there! A shotgun which is either a semi auto, inertia or piston driven (The majority of autoloaders) will NEVER cycle nonlethal or less then lethal ammo simply because they'll have just enough powder to stun someone and make him scream with agony and pain. If they did have more power...! Well, they wouldn't be less lethal anymore I guess!  Grin There are quite different categories of tactical shotguns and they'r used for different applications!

For example the M4 was created as a combat shotgun! It's use is simply to engage targets in close combat! No need of rubber buck there! Pump action shotguns however can be used both as riot dispersal guns, breaching or even combat! On another note oiling the piston will only increase pressures in your firestick that's why it will cycle however as someone already mentioned it will eventualy dry out!

We used to do the same thing with the MG3 GPMG, we'd oil the cartridges since it didn't have a piston!

hi - dont know if this will help . i have a molot vepr12 and have so far shot about 300 rounds from it. certainly it cycles without any problem using heavy rounds. when i use 36 or 32 it goes through whole mags without jamming. using 24/26 it will not eject properly at least once in every mag. initially it  use to not eject even 28g at least twice in each mag. the more rounds i shoot the more it seems to loosen up. but one thing is for sure it loves the larger rounds

Mildot,  I dont think Sat 8 cycle only heavy loads.     If it was that the Fabarm factory will not send a replacment pistion to Pierre, they will tell him it cycle only heavy loads ,!!!
All modern semi auto shotguns inertia  /  gas operated /  even long recoill ( spring)   cycle everithing from  28 grm up !!!
The Berreta Extrema 3.5 ins, (gas)    the Benelli Black Eagle 3.5 ins , (inertia)    the Luigi Franchi AL 12 ,(spring)   all cycle  28 grm  even 24 grm in hot weather !!  and a tactical     semi auto ( wich on its proper use  depends life or death ) cycle only heavy loads Huh?

I am not expecting that all tactical s/guns cycle rubber buck shot.  The Benelli M3,  the Franchi SPAS,   cycle everithing, everything, because they are  pump action + semi auto on the same gun.

Black Eagle- I was actually quoting you on one of your posts there!!!!!!! The one below in red!!! You got me scratching my head now mate???  Undecided Undecided

2 Sat 8 cycle only  heavy loads ( not probably because a tactical shotgun must  cycle everything even Rubber
  Buck Shot.)

Anyway, personally I have never handled or fired the SAT 8, I was comparing it to the Benelli M4 since it's a piston driven semi auto combat shotgun and if I'm not mistaken Fabarm tried to bid with the SAT 8 for the USMC combat shotgun trial programme, which eventually was won by Benelli. However, non lethal 12g ammo IE: rubber buck, bean bag, or baton rounds, etc.. have definatley less powder then a 24gr! On another note... The use of the word (TACTICAL) is very misinterpreted all over the world, especially here in our beloved Malta. Maybe political correctness is more of an issue here! I guess the police would have a heart attack on hearing anyone that wants to buy a COMBAT shotgun!!   Wink

Just to throw this out there, my Benelli m3 can handle 24g on semi just fine, lets hope the same can be said for the new shotgun on the way.
