  Haiti ENOUGH !
« on: February 04, 2010, 00:58:21 AM » by Vincent
I have had an odd feeling about aid to Haiti.
I am not alone.

Clip does not work when I paste here, you will need to go to liveleak to see this vid.
Its currently on the front page http://www.liveleak.com/
Refreshing reading. I was beginning to think I was the last man on earth.

Cens,

Everyone is allowed their opinion. However, a nobody airing his less than empathic and one-sided view doesn't do much for credibility. If real evidence and facts were presented along with his argument, then yes, one would be lead to agree. Unfortunately, we only have the view of a nobody from nowhere.
At least the"billion" or so is pumped into a devasted country. The same amount is put into one stealth bomber. You may argue that "charity begins at home", unfortunately it doesn't always do so.

Could not watch (or more to the point) hear, volume is too low and laptop speakers aren't exactly boom boxes.

Anyway I can very well presume what the content is about, and it is very predictable that we will get the usual need-to-get-a-life guy popping up in vitriolic defence of the tight fisted on such occasions.

Whatever the fekups in that country (and there are many) ordinary people who have nothing to do with those fekups except suffering the consequences on a daily basis, are not at any fault.

Refusing assistance on the basis of those fekups is like indifferently walking past a kid with a broken leg because his parents are criminals.

If that is not what the vid is about, sorry - as above, did not hear anything.

Being a nobody or not is no qualifiction; Otherwise few can talk.
The gist of the argument is not if one should assist earthwake victims with medical and material aid, but in the fact that after regularly pumping billions of dollars every year. The country is still guttervoodoo ville.

The idea of expected, by natural default, deserved regular handouts is not empathic at all.
This suggests the notion that we in the west have it good, and will contunue to do so ad eternum.
Nothing can be farther from the truth.
We are poor as well.
We trash about in a panic every day or we die.
We work every day for all our usefull life, throw away our youth, in the hope that we might have an adequate pension when we are old, and unceremoniously replaced.
I will not go into the shamfull details that make up our regular life. Just because it is done everyday does not make it any better. It just makes us harder for bowing our heads and accepting it all WITHOUT ASKING FOR HANDOUTS !

To build our civillisation took steadfast courage and a determination to prevai for some thousands of years. This is the signiture of our Western legacy;
Not gold, churches and Hollywood.

The real sin we can commit would be, if we squander away this legacy on hopeless causes, while actively neglecting our own vulnerable tribe.

OK Vince understood.

However there are often (always?) political reasons for certain actions that may not appear to make sense.

And sometimes what may seem illogical just requires a deeper understanding, rather than a superficial assessment that too many ordinary folk of the type out to "educate" anyone who lends them an unreluctant ear tend to give.

Don't really know when the vid was released (and again, nothing about its content except what I can gather from your comments) but the timing of it's popularisation is rather unfortunate, and hence as of yet I can not retract my comments with regard to Mr Loose Cannon - (I don't like his face either  Grin  Grin)
