I would think that a bolt action 7.5x55mm target rifle would be allowed for use in Italy. Would be very surprised/shocked if it's not. The calibres not accepted are 9x19mm, 5.56mm Nato, 7.62 Nato and 12.7mm Nato ( Grin). The 9x21mm, .223 Rem, .308 Win should be acceptable.
As RB said - a query direct with the host range would clarify things. I assume this is the Sniperclub range?

Last week me and two of my buddies shot in Sicily 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 calibers to our heart's content. No restrictions whatsoever on these calibers.

Kelino, can you buy ammo from there, do you have idea about prices? Also is there an ammo limit one can travel with ?

I came across a gunshop last year purely by chance and asked mostly "ghall kirjanza" and he told me that to buy ammo I needed an Italian licence, a Maltese one would be no good.

No idea about prices as had no intention/interest in taking any further.

It's possible a range would be more flexible... who knows.

I took with me 5kg of ammo. A break down in my case would be 120 rounds of 7.62x51 win and 150 rounds .38spl. My buddies had much heavier baggage, if you know what I mean Wink. Any ammo and arms are to make the journey in the bridge of the catamaran. Not sure on purchasing live ammo from Sicily but having said that I believe you can contact some local retailer and order reloads from him. You can ask him to get them delivered for you at the range. But after going through all the hassle of crossing to Sicily with my guns I would not trust in faith re ammo. Take what you will be shooting with you. Better safe than sorry.

One other thing. In Sicily the max number of ammo in all allowed is 200 rounds per shooter, not per weapon. Weird as it may sound it is the law. Don't go boasting to the range officer that you took over with you 1000 rounds. That would be a no no. And with the price of rifle ammo/components and the new utility bills, who can afford more than 200?
