  Red dot sight

Is this good for shooting at very low ambient light levels, or would the brightness of the dot interefere?

Mine has 10 brightness settings so you can use it in almost any light conditions.  Some of the more advanced models like this one are actually self-adjusting according to ambient light.

Yes, a good red dot sight can be used under all light conditions.

Dearv RB,

A good Red dot sight has many pros and few cons.

Pros:
1. Dot Brightness can be adjusted
2. Dot size can be adjusted

Since the Dot has an imaginary focal point at about 30', one can see the Target and Dot both in focus. The Red Dot is the ideal sight (though it's magnification is 1x for people who's eyesight is poor (like mine)

Con's

1. It takes some time to get used to aiming correctly down the sight. If one does not align precisely down the sight, aiming will be off.
2. It's adds more weight to the gun (especially a hand gun), making it harder to hold the gun steady when aiming. This should decrease with practice.

Rgds,
