  Rules and regulations!
« on: November 09, 2007, 10:07:51 AM » by MSS Forum Admin
Ahemm!! Well yes unfortunately, although oftentimes one may feel that rules and regulations may come between us and our enjoying this sport and hobby to the fullest extent, ultimately well thought out regulations are in place for the common good. Given, however, that many of them seem to be designed to restrain the lowest common denominator from doing something idiotic.

Which brings us to the point of this topic, which is, rules and regulations, or, maybe, lines of guidance, as they apply to this website... Hopefully these will be kept simple, and there most certainly is no intention to come up with something that in any way detracts from the enjoyment of this forum.

The Understanding:

1. Understand that our hobby and sport is, to outsiders, difficult to understand.

2. Accept that unfortunately practicing of same, is, to many, a sensitive issue.

3. Accept that in this day and age of widespread media access and distribution, and also media often hungering after the pettiest of stories that can be sensationalised to boost sales or viewership, anyone practicing this sport who makes a slightly false step, even if harmless in effect, will be under the spotlight - and so will all those innocent who enjoy the same pursuits.

4. Even worse, accept that even simply giving out the wrong impression, can have negative repercussions, collectively if not individually. This because it is human nature to tend to stereotype groups of people who share a common interest different to one's own, which stereotypes are often negative, and therefore the actions of one in the group automatically washes over the rest.

5. Understand that anything you write, is in the public domain, and even though you and your writings, written in jest, may be perfectly harmless, this may not be interpreted as such by others. This, as above, also applies to any impressions you may give as to yourself and others, in attitude and character.

The Rules:

1. Bear all the above in mind, for the common good.

2. Always and in every situation, remember that there is a real person behind the faceless writings. So respect please.

3. On the same theme, attack the argument, but never the person. We are here to discuss and disagree, possibly be proven wrong or corrected by others, and hence learn from our ignorance. If you can't accept this and take offence when corrected, then a public discussion forum is not for you.

4. No multiple identities. The forum software automatically picks up on and reports to Admin multiple identities, irrespective of whether you use a different e-mail address, etc... so forget it. You may be tolerated for a while but you will always be under observation and you risk your account/s and all your writings just vanishing one fine day - it only takes a couple of clicks to do so.

5. Don't think that you can hide behind the other side of a computer monitor. "Anonymous" just does not exist on the Internet despite what you may think. It is far, far easier than you can imagine to find out the identity of a person posting on this or any other public forum. So these rules are there to be respected, and as previous rule no.3, if you can not accept this truth then this place is not for you.

Thanks

Admin
