AACTS believes that LN 75 and 76 brought along important improvements that all licensed target shooters and collectors have benefited.
AACTS is also aware that, as with all new legislation, there is room for improvement, particularly in the section relating to the granting of permission to non-licensed shooters to shoot without any prior vetting, despite being under the supervision of licensed range conducting officers. AACTS is concerned that as things stand, the risks posed for responsible target shooters and collectors is far too great, and the committee currently considering various options to make this viable yet safe.
In no instance did AACTS or any member of its committee (whether when acting as member of the said committee or when acting on personal basis) express a position against these legal notices. The only concern was only related to the paragraph mentioned above.
As regards the petition circulating relating to the implementation of LN75 and 76, the club believes that its members are responsible enough to understand what is good for the sport and pastime, and does not feel that it should impose on its members whether to sign the petition or not.
We remain committed to defend our rights and fight for the interest of all licensed Collectors and Target Shooters keeping in mind that safety is to be given utmost priority.
We can do this by organising more shooting activities, strengthen our influences in a positive manner with the authorities and the Maltese People in general, and by keeping the interests of the Collectors and Target Shooting community before our own personal interests.
